I came to pottery over a decade ago as a way to balance my busy work and home life with something creative and hands-on. Since learning how to throw clay with Rose Esson-Dawson at a beginner's wheel class in 2013, I have developed my skills and style, drawing on previous interests in drawing, painting, photography, and knitting.
After retiring early from medicine due to vision complications of COVID, I now enjoy creating with clay on the wheel at Mudstone Studios in Warren, RI almost daily.
I am a board member for the Made In Warren Artist Cooperative in Warren, RI and more recently, a board member for Discover Warren. My husband teaches and serves in the Navy, and I love seeing what my three children (aged 17, 21 and 24) decide to do with each new step of their lives.
Patterns from nature, old architecture, and images from my local, national and international travels--most recently to Sicily and Scotland--inspire my work, which includes bowls, mugs, berry bowls, yarn bowls, salt rocks, butter bells, juicers, soap dishes, and more. More recently, I've turned to animals for inspiration, creating menageries of cups, mugs, bowls and vases, including sea animals, farm animals, family pets, and more.Working in a community studio makes for an ever-changing glaze experience so every kiln-unloading is an exciting time full of sometimes spectacular surprises.
My pottery is entirely functional--safe for food, microwave, oven and dishwasher--and meant to be used and enjoyed in your and your family's daily life.

Many years ago, my husband gave me a Van Gilder hole-making tool. Little did he know what wonders that tool would open up for me in my bowls-with-holes world. I make them in many sizes, from single serving to large bread basket sizes, and don't use any patterns so each one is unique. In the past year, I have incorporated more carving techniques, creating bowls that appear lace-like but still can hold berries, fruit, bread and more. As many dads like to say, good for everything but soup and ice cream!
